| Fernando Moraes a.k.a. Sonic has been playing Capoeira for several years and is a professor afilliated with Grupo Senzala from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the guidance of Mestre Toni Vargas. Considered by many the only poet in the Capoeira community, Mestre Toni is a diverse artist, highly accomplished in performance, dance and music. Fernando is also a journalist who graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-Brazil with a degree in Communications. For over 10 years he has developed his career in different areas within the field of Communications, including radio, television, public relations and event production. He worked for prestigious companies such as Sony BMG Music, Globosat, DirecTV, Plus Radio Carioca and VivaRio. Born in Rio de Janeiro state to a family of history teachers, Fernando's interest in Brazilian culture and folklore began at an early age. Over the years, he has made efforts to reconnect with his European, Indigenous, and African family roots. On January 6th of 2000 Fernando was introduced to Capoeira by his brother Fabricio and he began practicing rigorously. Since then his life has gained a whole new meaning. Today, he is dedicated to exposing Brazil's many and diverse arts to others who share his passion. In the past years Fernando has traveled all over Brazil and the world. He has visited dozens of States within Brazil as well as various countries throughout the world. Through his experiences during this time, Fernando has researched and studied Brazilian arts and folklore and has engaged in deep cultural exchanges which has led to the foundation of Senzala Group`s branch in the USA in 2006. |
